It is our goal to decrease the suffering and trauma resulting from sexual assault by making men and women aware of strategies of prevention and healing. The elements of the crimes of sexual assault, rape and stalking are introduced. Specific emphasis in made to the male students in regards to their responsibility, especially in a Gospel oriented setting such as BYU, to honor womanhood and to respect their fellow beings.
Each semester as University Police Officers instruct the first class session in the Health 129 classes they strive to prevent the unwary from becoming targets of aggression or from continuing to suffer the results of prior trauma. This class offers ideas of how to support those who have been victimized and direct them to appropriate resources to begin or continue the healing process.
Many questions about what happens when a sexual assault is reported are discussed and answered. Encouragement is given to report crimes and information is given to explain some of the resources available to assist the campus community in dealing with criminal assaults.
