If I am banned or drive a banned vehicle on campus what will happen?
If a person or vehicle is banned from campus they are not allowed to drive or park on BYU streets, roads, or property. Both the person and their vehicle are conidered "banned." If a banned car or person is found on campus a $300 citation will be issued, and a boot may be placed on the car. Habitual violators, who are banned, will be reported to the Honor Code for further disciplinary action.
Where can I park on campus without registering?
Time stalls are available to anyone, and are strictly enforced. For those who are visitors to campus there are two visitor lots. One is by the Museum of Art and the other is south of the Law School. If you have further questions please call (801) 422-3906.
Who is classified as a visitor to campus?
A visitor is anyone except current employees, current students, and (for the purpose of visitor parking only) students' spouses. Former students (non-student for at least 12 months) or former employees and those enrolled only in Home Study courses are also considered visitors and may park in a visitor lot.
Where does BYU get their authority to enforce parking rules and regulations?
Brigham Young University derives its authority to regulate campus traffic and parking from Section 41-6a-215 of the Utah Code. Parking rules and regulations are the product of the University Traffic Committee. This committee is comprised of full-time faculty, part-time faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, plus additional members selected from staff and administrative emloyees from various areas of the campus. Their actions are reviewed and ratified by the Vice President of Student Life.
Why does the University enforce parking rules and regulations?
University traffic and parking regulations are enacted to provide a safe and orderly environment for pedestrians and vehicles. Traffic and parking regulations are published on the University Electronic Handbook and on the Parking Services website (parking.byu.edu)
What does it mean to be "banned" from driving/parking on campus?
When a person or vehicle receives 7 or more citations, whether paid or unpaid , in a twelve month period, they lose the privilege of driving and parking on campus at any time, including weekends, holiday’s and Sunday’s. This is called being "banned." Any vehicle identified as being banned, or being driven by a banned person will be issued a $300.00 citation and may be immobilized.
What is a ticket scam?
A ticket scam is when a person places an old citation on a car attempting to make it appear they have already received a citation for the current day. Those found participating in this practice may receive an additional citation, and be fined up to $100. This type of action may be reported to the Honor Code Office for further discipline.
Why are citations issued on Sunday?
Citations are given out on Sundays in an effort to keep emergency access to all the buildings available to the police, fire and emergency medical departments as well as maintenance, utility and food service functions. Citations are given for parking out of stall, parking within a coned off area, blocking a roadway, parked on a red curb, parked on a sidewalk or lawn, or violation of a space that is designated as disability or Service stall at the time of the violation. BYU parking registration is not required for Sunday parking.
What is the difference between the yellow and white stall lines?
Stall lines for student and staff/faculty parking are different colors. Stalls for students are painted with white lines. Stalls for staff/faculty are painted with yellow lines.
Can I park on a red curb to run a paper in to a professor?
Red curbs are placed in parking lots to prevent hazardous parking situations or to provide access to a building for emergency crews. Leaving a car unattended on a red curb creates a problem, even for one or two minutes.
Where are disabled persons allowed to park?
A person who has a state issued disability permit or license plate may park in any disability stall, regular stall, or unlimited in a time stall that has a clock symbol on the designating sign. Parking on red curbs is prohibited.
Disability permits are not allowed in specialty stalls such as Official, Dean and Director, Nursery, Service, or department issued stalls. Please check signs to ensure proper parking.

Why is registering my bike important ?
Registering your bike will help the police locate the owner if it turns up lost or stolen. If a bike is stolen the information received from the registration will help provide the investigating officer with a make, model, and serial number. If police can get enough information about the bike it can be listed on the national law enforcement computer network as stolen property.
I cannot find my bike, what should I do?
If you can not find your bike call the BYU Parking Services Office at 422-3906. Be ready to explain where the bike was parked, and the style, color, etc… If the bike has been impounded by the BYU Police Department it can be retrieved at the Parking Services Office for a $20.00 fee. If the bike was stolen the Parking Services Office will transfer you to the Police Dispatch Center 422-2222 to file a stolen bike report. Please provide a make, model, serial number, estimated cost, and color.
Why would my bike be impounded?
Bicycles are impounded when they are abandoned, parked outside of a bike rack, locked to trees, poles, railings, garbage cans, inside buildings, etc…. There are times that the BYU Parking Services Office must move bike racks due to emergency situations, and/or construction needs. If rack movement is necessary, the Parking Services Office will make every effort of contacting the owners before the bike locks are cut and the bikes are impounded. BYU IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY LOCK THAT IS CUT.
