Welfare Check
Complainant request an Officer check the welfare of her son who is attending BYU. The Officer made contact with the son and found no reason for police intervention. The Officer called the complainant back and provided information on the conversation with her son.
Agency Assist
BYU and Provo dispatches were contacted by the Utah Crisis Hotline concerning a female student who lives off campus. It was reported the female student was possibly having suicidal ideations and took pills in an attempt to self-harm. A BYU officer was able to contact the female student by phone in order to determine her location. An officer then went to the female student’s home in order to check on her welfare. The female student was found to be in good health. The female student claimed to have not taken any pills or to have contacted the Utah Crisis Hotline. The student had a male friend with her and together they had a safety plan in place.

Suspicious
Officer responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in lot 6. The officer was unable to locate a vehicle that matched the description given to dispatch.
Computer Crimes
A non-matriculated individual reported he tried to set up a new laptop at the campus library and someone on BYU's private network took over his laptop. The non-matriculated complainant has a mental subject alert on file and uses Wasatch Mental Health as his address. Police had the complainant fill out a witness statement.
Disturbance
Officers responded on a report from a concerned citizen of a male who was displaying signs of mental illness. The male was yelling and causing alarm to the reporting party. Officers arrived and observed the male shirtless in 19 degree weather. The male was seen speaking with persons not there and experiencing other delusions. Officers placed the male inside a patrol vehicle to stay warm while running his information. The male was discovered to have warrants out of the 5th District Court. The Utah County Jail advised they would not accept the subject on the out of county warrants. The Provo MCOT (Mobil Crisis Outreach Team) was contacted and agreed to respond and evaluate the male. While waiting for MCOT to arrive, the male started to strike his head against the cage of the patrol vehicle. The officers instructed the male to stop and had him exit the vehicle. When MCOT arrived, they determined that the male should be sent to the ER at UVRMC for an involuntary commitment. The male was transported to the hospital by an officer. The male was received by the hospital staff.
Criminal Mischief
An officer was dispatched to Heritage 15 on a delayed report that someone sprayed a fire extinguisher in the stairwell. Officers found a fire extinguisher from the third floor was sprayed in the first floor stairwell. Building Care was notified for a cleanup and Risk Management was notified of the extinguisher use. There is no suspect information at this time.
Drugs
While patrolling the Y-Trailhead, an officer could smell the odor of marijuana coming from a parked vehicle. The officer made contact with the occupants of the vehicle. The passenger claimed the marijuana was hers and she was the only one smoking the marijuana. It was discovered through a records check that the passenger had multiple active warrants. The passenger was advised on her warrants and issued a misdemeanor citation for possession of marijuana.
Sexual Assault
The on-call detective was informed of the information. The victim does not want to pursue this further until after finals. The BYU Police Victim Advocate has been in contact with the victim in this case and will help set up a forensic interview.
Suspicious
An officer was dispatched to the area of the Creamery on Ninth when the complainant stated she heard four or five loud noises that could be gun shots. The complainant said she heard the noises coming from a passing vehicle. However, the complainant was unable to provide a vehicle description or any other information. An officer responded to the Creamery on Ninth, walked through and around the business, and spoke with some of the patrons. No one had seen or heard gun shots and everything was secure and safe.
Vehicle Burglary
Officer responded to a burglary at the Y Trailhead. Upon arrival, the officer contacted the owner of the vehicle to gather detailed information about the incident. The officer took photographs of the vehicle damage. The officer requested written statement from the owner. There is no video surveillance in the area of the vehicle burglary. This case will be referred to the investigations division.
