Criminal Mischief
BYU police responded to the Y-trailhead after dispatch observed juveniles forcing open a closed gate at night. Officers found a broken padlock and damage to the juveniles' vehicle, which was damaged while attempting to drive through the partially opened gate. The juveniles were identified, and their parents were contacted; a responsible adult took custody of them. Campus surveillance video captured the incident. No injuries occurred, only property damage. The juvenile who broke the lock will be referred to Juvenile Court for criminal mischief. Officers replaced the gate's chain and lock.
