Suspicious Person A suspicious individual was reported near WT, described as a bald man seen walking beside some apartments while using his phone. Officers responded to the scene, conducted a thorough search of the area, including Temple View Drive and 900 East, but were unable to locate the subject.
Welfare Check A welfare check was conducted at Riviera Apartments in response to a caller’s concern about their roommate potentially experiencing mental health issues and self-harm. Officers contacted both the caller and the roommate. The roommate denied any current needs but acknowledged ongoing issues from the past. To ensure their well-being, other roommates arranged alternative housing so they could get rest. The officers provided information on campus resources, and the roommate indicated they would continue seeking support independently.
Juvenile Problem During an activity near the JFSB building, FSY students were messing around and playing when one student pulled the pants of another from behind; however, the underwear remained intact. The incident was reported to BYU Police, who then met with the students involved and FSY counselors to address the matter.
Juvenile Problem During after-dinner hours at Heritage Halls Dorm, FSY students were horsing around when one student pulled another's pants down from behind. FSY staff promptly contacted the students' parents, and an officer interviewed both the suspect and the victim to address the incident.
Extortion BYU Police responded to an extortion incident at HR involving a juvenile male who received threatening messages from an unknown social media user demanding money after sending explicit photos. The juvenile sent a small amount of money before blocking the sender. The juvenile’s parents requested to speak with their child directly instead of involving law enforcement and were provided with education about online scams and resources such as the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3).
Lost Property A BYU employee at the WSC reported lost keys. The report was filed for documentation purposes only, as there are no suspicious circumstances, and is required for key replacement. The employee provided an email statement, which will be attached to the report, and the officer issued a case number.
Animal Problem An officer responded to a complaint at Lot 2 regarding a dog left in a vehicle. Upon arrival, the officer found the vehicle parked in the shade with windows down and the temperature outside at 84°F. The dog appeared calm and showed no signs of distress. The vehicle owner returned while the officer was on scene and promptly released the dog before leaving campus. The owner confirmed the dog had been in the vehicle for less than 20 minutes.
Medical Provo Fire and BYU Police responded to a report of an infant with burns at Wymount Terrace. Upon arrival, fire personnel had already assessed the child, who appeared calm and showed no signs of distress. Minor red marks, like a mild sunburn, were observed on the infant’s back. Neither the fire crew nor the responding officer noted any signs of discomfort or suspicious circumstances, and the child was not transported to the hospital.
Suspicious An officer responded to LVES for a trespassing/suspicious person. Officers contacted the person and verified he had been trespassed from BYU property. He is being referred for trespassing charges.
Fireworks Police responded to the area near the Bell Tower and Heritage Halls after an FSY representative reported seeing four males launching fireworks. Due to a 10-minute delay in the report, officers conducted an extensive search of the area, reviewed camera footage, and spoke with the reporting party and others nearby. No individuals matching the description were located, and no witnesses reported seeing the suspects.
