Police Beat • 11/30/2025 - 12/01/2025

Information
The complainant reported leaving his iPad in the restroom last Sunday, which was later taken by someone. Initially, he indicated the device was pinging at an address in Mapleton. However, upon further contact, he provided a phone number for the address and spoke with the homeowner, who confirmed they found the iPad and were holding it safely until the owner could be located. They planned to meet that evening to return the device and would call if any issues arose.

Criminal Mischief
A police officer responded to the Museum of Peoples and Cultures regarding an incident of criminal mischief in one of the restrooms. The vandalism involved tagging and leaving paper products scattered throughout, creating a significant mess for custodial staff to clean. The incident appeared to have taken place during a field trip when large groups were visiting the museum.

Fire – Gas Smell
An officer responded to Wymount Apartments on a gas smell. The tenants reported that they turned their furnace on and could smell gas. Provo Fire responded and did not find any issues. Housing staff on scene as well. Call cleared.

Property Damage
A BYU officer responded to reports of property damage to a rock wall east of the Hinckley Center, near a U-turn lane. The damaged section was found on the roadway edge, resembling impact from a vehicle, but no debris such as plastic or glass was present. It was suspected that a snowplow may have caused the damage, especially since grounds had been clearing snow the previous day. Camera footage was reviewed but revealed no clear cause. The officer documented the scene with photos, removed debris from the roadway, and coordinated repairs with grounds.

Campus Alarms
Officers responded to eight campus alarms and several lockouts, providing assistance to BYU security and supporting the campus community.
