Theft The officer returned a phone call to a victim of a bicycle theft at the Wymount Terrace apartment complex on BYU campus. The victim last saw his bright green Specialized Rockhopper on December 18, 2025. When he checked on January 3, 2026, he discovered that the lock had been cut and his bike had been stolen. The victim provided the bike's serial number, and an NCIC listing was completed. Currently, there is no video surveillance or suspect information available.
Citizen Contact A police officer met with a complainant at the BYU Police Department regarding an incident with security staff. The complainant reported that on November 20, 2025, he was involved in a disturbance at the library, during which security staff asked for his name before he could leave. He clarified he was not detained or restrained. The officer explained that the security actions did not constitute unlawful detention or kidnapping. The complainant stated he was not seeking to press charges, only documentation of the incident. Body-worn camera footage of the conversation is available. The complainant has been banned from the library and is currently involved in a dispute process.
Warrant Service A police officer observed a vehicle speeding westbound on University Parkway near Lot 49. After stopping the vehicle, the officer discovered that the driver had an active arrest warrant from the Utah County Justice Court for lack of proof of insurance and no valid license. The driver was placed under arrest and taken to the Utah County Jail, but jail deputies refused to accept the individual due to the warrant. As a result, the officer returned the driver to their vehicle and issued a written warning for speeding.
Unsecured Doors During a routine patrol, officers discovered two unsecured doors on the Marriott Center concourse. They promptly secured and locked the doors to ensure safety. One officer then conducted a thorough walkthrough of the Marriott Center, but nothing suspicious was found.
