Mental Subject On 01/09/2023, at approximately 2225 hours, BYU PD officers were dispatched to a report of a criminal mischief in progress at the Harris Fine Arts Center (HFAC). When officers arrived, they located an individual that appeared to be suffering from a mental episode. The individual had broken a window on an upper level of the building and had thrown out some chairs and other items. Officers requested BYU EMS and Provo Fire and Rescue to respond concerning injuries the individual sustained while breaking the window. BYU EMS arrived treated the individual and Provo Rescue transported the individual to Utah Valley Hospital. BYU officers went to the hospital and submitted an Emergency Application for Involuntary Commitment without Certification (Pink Sheet).
Medical An officer was notified by a student of an instructor who was in a seizure in the JKB. The officer notified dispatch who advised BYU EMS would be in route and Provo EMS was already in route. The patient was transported by Provo EMS.
Traffic Accident A hit and run was reported to BYU Police. The location could have been Lot 37 or the complainant home address. There are no cameras for Lot 37. There appears to be white paint transfers on the complainant’s gray vehicle. There is no known suspect or suspect vehicle.
Welfare Check Officers were dispatched to Miller Field on a welfare check on a female who was inside the BYU Team dugout. The female was found to be in a bathing suit and sweats, with some of her personal items laid out on the bench. The staff was concerned for her due to the weather and the fact that she was not allowed inside the field. She was found to be a BYU student but not currently enrolled in classes. It appeared that she had some sort of mental health issue but did not appear to be in danger and was cooperative. She was offered a ride to her apartment but chose to walk instead.
Traffic Accident Officer took a minor traffic accident report involving one of the BYU parking enforcement vehicles. The accident is still under investigation.
Extortion A complainant sent compromising pictures of himself through Snapchat and now he is receiving message to send money, or they will be sending the pictures to his social media contacts. The complainant has blocked the messenger and reported the incident to Snapchat. The complainant did not send the money. A report was filed.
Found Property Officer recovered a lost credit card at the Smith Field House after the volleyball game on 01/07/23. Officer attempted contact with the card holder without success. The card will be held in patrol until contact is made with the owner.
