Extortion – Fraud A report was filed with police regarding a case of financial extortion involving threats to release inappropriate pictures sent online. The victim has already made an initial payment and was advised to block further messages and refrain from sending additional money. He was also referred to the internet scam website.
Accident BYU police responded to a minor parking lot accident near Heritage Building 16. Officers found that a large passenger van had backed into a parked BYU work truck occupied by two employees. Both vehicles sustained minor damage, and no injuries were reported.
Citizen Contact A BYU student accidentally left his water bottle on a water dispenser and couldn't find it when he returned. The BYU Police Department was dispatched to assist and located the bottle in the original spot. The student suspects someone may have been playing a joke on him and plans to pick up the bottle when he is back in the area.
Fire – Gas Smell Officers dispatched on a natural gas smell behind the ESC. Officers arrived along with Provo Fire and determined the smell to be coming from the sewer grates behind. The smell was strong, so we notified the grounds department to check on the problem.
Sick Person The BYU Police Department responded to a call about a sick person at the Wilkinson Student Center. Officers arrived to find a female being treated by medics after donating blood, which left her feeling faint. After evaluation, she felt well enough to leave on her own, and no police action was necessary.
Fall An elderly person fell while attending a baseball game. They were transported to Utah Valley Hospital for additional treatment. This occurred at a special event and was taken care of by officers working the event.
