Suspicious Officers responded to a suspicious person report at the JRCB. Upon arrival, a staff member was already speaking with a male outside the west doors, identified as a former high school classmate. The male was advised by staff and officers that he could not return to campus and was required to leave.
Robbery Alarm A robbery/duress alarm was reported from the front desk at the BYU Laundry Building. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the alarm buttons had not been pressed, and the cause of the trigger was unknown. A request was made through dispatch for security personnel to inspect the system for potential faults.
Citizen Contact A student came to the front desk wanting to speak with an officer. An interview was conducted and the student stated they were sexually assaulted by another student two years ago. The incident happened off campus in Provo. The BYU Victim's Advocate was contacted and will assist the student in making a report to Provo Police.
Medical A male soccer player injured his shoulder during indoor practice, describing the sensation as a dislocation. Provo medical personnel examined him and applied a shoulder sling. He declined ambulance transport and instead arranged for friends to take him to the emergency room for further evaluation.
Theft An officer was dispatched to investigate a delayed theft of an electric scooter from a bicycle rack west of Wyview Park Building 4. The complainant reported that the scooter, described as large and non-folding, was stolen during this period. The lock securing the scooter had been cut, and was left at the scene. Additionally, two other locks at the same rack were found cut, suggesting a targeted theft. The owner was unable to identify the make, model, or serial number of the stolen scooter.
Welfare Check An officer was dispatched to the ITB in response to a report of a transient male staring at the building. The complainant requested a welfare check. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with the individual, who stated he was passing through and did not need assistance. The male left the area shortly after, and the officer observed no suspicious or criminal activity at the scene.
Traffic Stop A police officer observed a scooter traveling southbound on Canyon Ave at Helaman Dr without a headlight. The officer stopped the vehicle and noted the license plate's expiration sticker from 2009. The driver admitted the headlight was out and had temporarily attached a camping headlight to the scooter. The driver also revealed he had never registered the scooter, which he had owned for over two months, and that it was uninsured. During a records check, the officer discovered the driver lacked a motorcycle endorsement and had previously been warned for similar violations a few months earlier. The officer issued citations for no headlight and no insurance and issued warnings for no registration and no motorcycle endorsement. The driver stated he planned to call a friend to help load the scooter into a truck.
Trespassing Officers responded to B 66 after security reported students remaining in the building after hours without access. Upon arrival, they found several students in the ceramic work area, who explained that security had asked them to leave but allowed them to stay until they finished and cleaned up their projects for finals. The students completed their cleanup, and the building was subsequently secured.
Suspicious A police officer responded to the Talmadge Building after a non-student female was found inside after hours. The woman explained she was seeking a quiet space to finish her paperwork due to a noisy house. She agreed to leave, quickly packed her belongings, and was escorted out of the building peacefully.
