Weapons Offense
Officers responded to a call regarding a male individual hiking the Y-trailhead with an open-carry handgun visible on his hip and a baby carrier on his back containing an infant. The complainant had already vacated the area by the time law enforcement arrived. It is important to note that Utah is an open-carry state; however, Brigham Young University (BYU) has regulations prohibiting weapons on its property. Some users of the Y-trail may not be aware that it falls within BYU's jurisdiction, as the trail also provides access to other hiking systems along the Wasatch Front. Given that the male was not reported to be acting aggressively, officers took no further action apart from maintaining a patrol presence in the area for safety.

Medical
During a softball event at BYU, an officer on duty witnessed an incident involving the university's social media photographer. The photographer was struck in the forehead by a foul ball, resulting in immediate injury. The officer promptly called for BYU EMS to provide assistance. In the meantime, they applied ice to the photographer's forehead and fingers to help manage the swelling and discomfort. Upon arrival, BYU EMS assessed the situation, treated the photographer for her injuries, which included a large goose egg on her forehead and bruising on her fingers.

Found Property
A student turned in a key they found to the officer while he was patrolling South Campus Drive. The key is a fob for a Chrysler vehicle and was turned in at the info desk at the WSC.

Suspicious
An officer received a directive from the Dispatch Center to contact a professor at Brigham Young University (BYU). Upon reaching the professor, she informed the officer that she had received a voicemail at her office earlier that day. The content of the voicemail was unclear to her, as she did not recognize the caller and had no understanding of the message they were trying to convey. The professor noted that the phone number from which the voicemail originated appeared as blocked. In an attempt to gather more information, the officer utilized TLO.COM to investigate the email associated with the unknown caller; however, the search yielded no identifiable owner name.

Hazardous Condition
A concerned citizen alerted the authorities to a hazardous situation involving a road sign that was precariously hanging from a traffic signal pole, posing a potential danger to passing vehicles and pedestrians. Upon arriving at the scene, an officer confirmed the sign's precarious position directly over the roadway. To ensure public safety, the officer requested assistance from the electrical shop, specifically an employee equipped with a boom truck. The shop employee promptly responded and successfully removed the hanging sign before it could fall, eliminating the risk of injury or damage.

Assault
A police officer responded to the area of 450 E Cougar Blvd. and University Pkwy after a caller reported that a vehicle had driven past multiple times, with the occupants throwing water bottles at them and other pedestrians. The officer searched the area and spoke to several individuals who had bottles thrown at them. The officer also identified the suspect vehicle, which is registered in Juab County. This investigation is active and has been referred to the Investigations Division.
