Fire Alarm Officers responded to a fire alarm at the Richards Building on BYU campus. Upon arrival, they identified the specific room and sensor that triggered the alarm. After determining there was no cause for concern, the officers relayed the information to the on-call fire technician. The technician instructed the officers to clear the alarm and reset the fire panel.
Accident A report was filed for a two-car accident in the parking lot of CONE. No injuries were reported. An officer responded, contacted the involved parties, documented the incident, and exchanged information with those involved.
Accident Officers responded to a traffic incident in lot #20 involving a BYU employee who backed into an unoccupied parked vehicle. The owner of the parked vehicle was contacted and responded to the scene. No significant damage was reported to either vehicle.
Duress Alarm Officer responded to a duress alarm at the Tanner Building and discovered the entire floor was under construction, which caused the alarm malfunction.
Abandoned Vehicle An officer responded to the CONE regarding abandoned motor scooters in the parking lot and construction area. Upon contact, the officer coordinated with BYU Traffic officers, who were relocating the scooters to Lot 3 to facilitate construction. Many of the scooters were unregistered or had expired plates. The Traffic Division Lieutenant instructed that the scooters be tagged as abandoned with a ten-day notice. The officer tagged the vehicles and will follow up in ten days.
Duress Alarm A BYU officer responded to a duress alarm in the Marriott Center ticket office. Dispatch reviewed camera footage and confirmed that the situation appeared normal. The officer checked the area and found everything was clear. It was determined that an employee had accidentally triggered the alarm.
Property Damage Officer responded to Wymount Terrace after a vehicle drove over the grass and collided with the sidewalk railing, causing significant damage. The driver explained that while parking, they hit the brake, but the car unexpectedly accelerated, leading to the crash.
Nuisance A complainant called dispatch at 2202 hours to report loud music coming from the Marriott Center during the Hope of America event. By 2203 hours, the complainant advised that the music had stopped and stated she did not want contact but wished to file a similar complaint for next year’s event. Officers in the area confirmed that there was no music at the Marriott Center at the time. The complainant was not contacted by officers, but her concern has been documented in this report.
