Fire Alarm Officers were dispatched to the Missionary Training Center (MTC) following a fire alarm; however, the alarm was canceled by MTC Security before their arrival. The Provo Fire Department responded to the scene to assess the situation.
Citizen Contact An officer responded to a citizen assist at the UPB after a male caller was verbally aggressive and made a remark that some church authorities would be going to hell. No threats were made. The caller was blocked from further contact. Officers attempted to reach the caller but were unsuccessful.
Citizen Contact An officer met with a BYU employee and her supervisor at the CSC to discuss an incident near the campus floral. The employee reported that yesterday morning, she observed a man in his 30s walking in the area. He approached her claiming he was jogging the previous night and had lost his cell phone. She pointed out the phone on the ground about 10 feet behind him, which he retrieved on camera. Following this, he engaged in a brief conversation and then told her she was beautiful before leaving. The employee expressed feeling uncomfortable and suspected the man may have staged the phone loss to approach her. Camera footage revealed the man was not seen prior to the interaction and left after recovering the phone. The officer showed the employee the footage for review.
Medical An officer responded to MLRP for a medical incident. Upon arrival, EMS checked the area, but no patient was found. The area was crowded due to ongoing events, and no emergencies were reported by anyone at this time.
Theft An officer responded to a report of a stolen Apple TV streaming device from room 229 at the University Parkway Center. The device, small enough to fit in a pant pocket, was reported missing. Surveillance footage was reviewed with dispatch, but no suspects were identified on the video. The stolen item has been entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database.
Vandalism A complainant reported that her vehicle was hit with what appeared to be white paint balls sometime between 0800 and 1130 hours today. The responding officer observed 20-25 impact marks consisting of a white, easily removable paint substance, with all marks being round and consistent with paintball hits. No damage was noted. Photographs of the vehicle's markings were taken and will be attached to the case file. Further investigation is ongoing.
Medical An officer responded to the Museum of Paleontology parking lot after a school bus driver, feeling faint, pulled over. Provo EMS arrived, evaluated the driver on scene, and later released him after he felt safe to drive.
Suspicious A student reported a suspicious encounter in the Life Science Building around 5:00 p.m. She described a male approximately 20 years old who approached her and sat at her table, asking numerous questions. After she took the elevator to a different floor, she observed the individual walking past her again, which heightened her feeling of being watched. Concerned about her safety, she requested BYU Police to review surveillance footage to identify the individual. The Dispatch Center is currently examining the security camera recordings for any relevant images.
