Carbon Monoxide – Alarm An officer and Provo Fire responded to WP for a carbon monoxide (CO) alarm. Provo Fire ventilated and cleared the area of CO. Housing personnel and a fire technician were also dispatched. Provo Fire contacted the gas company to respond per protocol for CO alarms. After the apartment was aired out and deemed safe, residents were allowed to re-enter.
Welfare Check The BYU Police Department was contacted by an individual requesting a welfare check on a friend attending a campus sports camp who had expressed suicidal ideations. The caller reported receiving a concerning text the previous night in which her friend stated he wanted to end his life and felt that no one would care. Officers located and contacted the individual in question, notified his parents, and assisted in developing a plan to ensure he receives appropriate support and care upon returning home.
Welfare Check An officer responded to the FPH regarding a citizen contact involving a phone call from an upset student. The student had angrily confronted the reporting party about concerns related to his student status and potential termination, which could result in his return to Syria. The officer located and spoke with the student at the library, where he stated the issue had been resolved. The student was calm, expressed remorse, and apologized to the staff members involved. No threats were made, and the student was advised on appropriate ways to address such concerns in the future.
Welfare Check The BYU Police Department received a report of a female individual walking near the Maeser Hill stairs who appeared to be exhibiting behavior suggesting a possible mental health concern. The caller requested a welfare check to ensure the individual's safety. Upon arrival, officers were unable to locate the person, as she had left the area.
Found Property An officer was dispatched to CTB in response to a report of a found backpack. However, the call was canceled prior to the officer's arrival. The reporting party had already turned the backpack into the Lost and Found at the Wilkinson Center.
Accident Hit & Run A minor accident occurred in the Lot 20 parking area near the HCEB. One of the vehicles involved left the scene, but campus security camera footage was used to identify the driver. The officer contacted the individual , who stated he was unaware he had struck another vehicle. Driver exchange forms were provided to both parties. No injuries were reported, and no citations were issued.
Attempt to Locate Stolen License Plate An officer responded to verify a License Plate Reader (LPR) hit on a stolen plate on campus. Upon investigation, it was confirmed that the vehicle's owner had inadvertently left the listed plate on the vehicle while his wife used it on campus. The owner was advised to return the plate and obtain new ones from the DMV.
Accident A police officer responded to a reportable accident at Lot 1. The drivers involved exchanged information and were provided with a case number. The officer completed a DI-9 report, and one of the vehicles was towed by Don Shelley.
Medical An officer and BYU EMS responded to the Wilkinson Student Center on a report of a medical call. EMS treated and released the patient on scene without incident.
