Upon arrival, the officer contacted the employee who activated the alarm and learned that the employee was experiencing computer issues and mistakenly believed the red panic button would reset the computer. Agency Assist BYU officers responded to the CONE to assist Provo officers with a report of a child locked inside a vehicle. Upon arrival, Provo officers advised that the vehicle had initially been running but had since shut off. Officers attempted to gain entry through the vehicle doors, but when those efforts were unsuccessful, a Provo officer broke a window to access the child. BYU EMS and Provo Fire personnel responded to the scene and evaluated the child, who was found to be unharmed. The child was subsequently released back to the parents.
Disorderly Conduct Officers responded to the Creamery on Ninth East for a reported assault. The complainant stated that another customer grabbed his cell phone and pulled him from a booth during a verbal dispute that began after he was asked to stop using profane language in front of children. Witness statements and video footage showed that the other male took the complainant's phone, but the complainant pulled himself toward the male while grabbing his arm, causing himself to fall from the booth rather than being pulled out. Video also showed the complainant attempting to swing a crutch at the other male after falling. Based on the investigation, officers determined that no assault had occurred. Both parties engaged in disruptive behavior that caused a disturbance inside the store and were found to have committed disorderly conduct. The case will be submitted to Provo Justice Court for charging consideration.
Carbon Monoxide CO Alarm A BYU officer responded to a carbon monoxide (CO) alarm at a Wyview residence. Upon arrival, the officer contacted residents who had evacuated the building and were waiting outside. None of the occupants reported any symptoms or illness related to carbon monoxide exposure. Provo Fire and EMS responded to investigate the alarm and identified elevated CO levels within the residence. BYU Housing and Enbridge personnel also responded and took corrective measures to ensure the residence was safe. Once the hazard was mitigated and the area was determined to be safe, residents were allowed to return to their homes.
