Found Property An officer responded to a report of a wallet found at the Crabtree building after janitorial staff turned it in. Staff advised that a group of boys who had been in the area had since gone to the Engineering Building. The officer located the group and identified an individual whose identification matched the contents of the wallet. After confirming the wallet belonged to him and that he had lost it, the officer returned the wallet.
Duress Alarm An officer responded to the Wilkinson Student Center regarding a duress alarm activation. Upon arrival, the officer checked four separate duress alarm locations in the area and found that none had been activated. Dispatch advised that there had been previous issues with the alarm system generating activations without identifying a depressed alarm. The officer requested that dispatch have the alarm system troubleshot to determine the cause of the false activations.
Bike Theft An officer was contacted by a student in a housing area who reported that their bicycle had been stolen sometime within the previous few days. The bicycle had been registered, but it had not yet been entered into any database and was therefore not listed in NCIC. Officers reviewed available video footage to identify suspects or gather information related to the theft. The investigation is ongoing, and additional follow-up will be conducted.
Carbon Monoxide CO Alarm Officers and Provo Fire responded to a carbon monoxide (CO) alarm at a BYU apartment. Provo Fire detected CO levels ranging from 75–80 ppm throughout the residence and 7–10 ppm in the apartment directly above, while neighboring units showed no CO readings. The apartment residents reported they had used the oven to cook dinner more than an hour before the alarm was activated. A housing representative later arrived and found no CO reading; however, the apartment door had reportedly been open for approximately 45 minutes by that time. The gas company was requested to respond. During the incident, the resident’s spouse and 20‑month‑old child temporarily sheltered in a neighboring apartment until the CO levels dissipated.
