Fire Alarm A BYU officer responded to Heritage 13 for a fire alarm activation. Upon arrival, the officer determined there was no fire or smoke present. The alarm was caused by a resident using hairspray while curling their hair, which activated the fire alarm system. The officer silenced the alarm, and a fire technician responded to inspect and reset the system.
Medical A BYU officer responded to the Joseph F. Smith Building for a medical call involving a student experiencing chest pain. BYU EMS and Provo Fire personnel also responded and evaluated the student on scene. After assessment, the student declined further medical treatment and elected to remain on campus.
Medical An officer responded to the Smith Field House regarding a student who sustained a finger injury in the weight room. The injury occurred when the student's finger was accidentally crushed between several heavy weights, causing trauma. BYU EMS and Provo Fire personnel provided first aid and evaluated the injury on scene. After treatment, the student was released and planned to self-transport to Instacare for further medical evaluation and treatment.
Accident Officers made telephonic contact regarding a delayed traffic accident involving a BYU employee. The employee reported striking a fire hydrant with a BYU vehicle on the east side of the Martin Building. The vehicle sustained minor damage, and no damage was observed to the fire hydrant.
Disturbance Officers responded to the Martin Building on a report of an individual causing a disturbance. The complainant reported that the subject was talking to themself and loudly using profanity, making others uncomfortable. The officer contacted the subject, who refused to provide identification and exhibited behavior consistent with a possible mental health crisis. The subject subsequently boarded a bus and was advised not to return to campus.
Keep Peace Officers responded to Wymount Terrace to keep the peace while a tenant retrieved personal belongings. The tenant, who had a no-contact order against her spouse, requested law enforcement presence while gathering her property. The tenant collected her items and departed without incident.
Medical An officer and Provo Paramedics responded to the volleyball court near Heritage Halls Building 6 for a juvenile FSY participant who may have sustained a broken arm. Paramedics evaluated the juvenile on scene. The juvenile and their parent declined medical transport to Utah Valley Hospital, and the juvenile was released to FSY staff.
Theft An officer investigated a delayed scooter theft reported at the bike rack east of the HRCB. Based on similarities to recent incidents, the officer identified a suspect, recovered the stolen scooter near the MCKB, and located the suspect in the JSB. During an interview at the police station, the suspect admitted to using multiple scooters without permission. The suspect was cited for three counts of Unauthorized Possession and subsequently released. The recovered scooter was returned to the victim. The case will be forwarded to the Provo City Attorney's Office for review of charges.
