Citizen Contact
On 08/08/24, BYU Police took a phone contact report from the BYU Business Career Center located in the Tanner Building. One of the career placement counselors had forwarded some concerning emails from a former international student. It was reported he had made threats to "kill as many Americans," as he could, and die by suicide after being turned down for a job interview in Salt Lake City. The individual is from another country and does not want to go back. Several emails were forwarded that began on 08/02/24 and continued until 08/07/24. In the emails, he states a willingness to rob a bank, die by suicide potentially at the hands of police, and declares that all Americans are evil and that it is his duty to destroy that evil. He speculates that his purpose on Earth is to "be a crusader and destroy the greatest evil on Earth, the Americans." The individual is a former international student and currently lives in Provo, off-campus. He has also expressed frustration with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Provo Police Department has an active case with him and is aware of this information. A BYU ban request has been submitted and the BYU Police Department is working closely with the Provo Police Department on this case. If you have any contact with this subject contact BYU Police.
