Fire – Gas Smell A report of a gasoline smell on the east side of the Wilkinson Student Center near the roundabout prompted a police response at BYU. Upon arrival, officers observed ongoing construction activities involving various equipment and generators. After assessing the situation, the officers determined that the odor was likely due to the construction equipment in use. With no immediate danger identified, they notified dispatch, then cleared the area.
Agency Assist An officer was contacted by a detective from the West Jordan Police Department regarding a wanted individual employed at a construction site at the Fine Arts Building. The suspect, sought for felony charges in West Jordan and Taylorsville, was located at the scene and arrested without incident. The individual was then handed over to West Jordan Police Detectives for transport to jail.
Medical – E-Bike Accident The BYU Police Department received a report regarding an incident at Lavell Edwards Stadium near Gate 1, where an e-bike rider lost control and collided with a pedestrian. Emergency services, including the Provo Fire Department, responded to the scene and transported the injured individual—who sustained a head injury—to Utah Valley Hospital for medical treatment.
Medical While serving an evening meal at the MTC, a person fainted. The individual was part of a group responsible for serving food. Provo EMS, in coordination with BYU police, responded to the scene. Upon arrival, the patient was conscious, breathing normally, and alert, and was observed eating a popsicle. The patient was later released into the care of a church official for transportation home.
Suspicious Person Security personnel reported a suspicious male and female who had entered the secured filming area. The pair claimed to be lost and indicated they needed to turn around, but they did not properly identify themselves and lacked clear permission to be there. The suspects were later seen parking their vehicle and walking around the premises. Despite a search, security was unable to locate them initially. Officers eventually identified the suspects with the help of employees, confirming that the female was the daughter of filming director Brian Finn and that the male was her boyfriend. It was verified that the suspects had permission to be on-site.
Drugs A report was received regarding the discovery of three needles protruding from the bottom of a rain gutter located near a child's playground. The needles were located, collected, and documented with photographs. Inside the cap of one needle, a brown waxy substance was found, which tested positive for morphine through a field test. No suspect information was available at the time.
