Found Property An officer responded to the JFSB regarding a found cell phone. A Building Care employee located the phone while cleaning the building and turned it over to the officer. The officer worked to identify and contact the owner of the device. The owner was successfully identified and contacted and advised they will come to the police station tomorrow evening to retrieve the phone.
Accident An officer responded to a two-vehicle accident in the parking lot near the Tanner Building. The collision resulted in minor damage to both vehicles. The drivers exchanged information at the scene, and a report was completed documenting the incident.
Duress Alarm An officer responded to the Former President’s Home in response to a duress alarm. Dispatch advised that no suspicious activity was observed on camera and noted the alarm may be a malfunction due to multiple similar alarms over the past month. The officer checked the residence, found no one present, and confirmed the alarm button was in its normal position.
Sick Person An officer responded to assist a student who was feeling ill and requested medical attention. Medical personnel evaluated the student and provided assistance. The officer also assisted the student with transportation to her vehicle.
Medical An officer responded to the west lawn behind the Hinckley Center for a report of a female student who had been stung by a bee or bitten by a wasp. The student was evaluated by BYU EMS and Provo medics. No obvious allergic reactions were observed, and the student did not require transportation by medical personnel.
Suspicious An officer took a delayed suspicious incident report by phone. Two female students reported that while walking across Lot 4 near the Heating Plant, a male driving a small blue truck approached them and asked if they had a car. The driver's questions and demeanor made the students feel uncomfortable and suspicious. The students quickly left the area by walking downhill to the lower parking lot. The officer is reviewing security camera footage to identify the individual and the vehicle.
Sick Person An officer responded to the Harold B. Lee Library for a report of a sick student. BYU EMS evaluated the student, who advised she was not feeling well. After being assessed, the student chose to be released at her own request. No law enforcement action was necessary.
Animal Problem Officers responded to the walking path near the Richards Building for a report of an injured deer. Upon arrival, they located a female deer with an injured rear leg accompanied by three fawns. The deer appeared otherwise healthy and was moving without significant difficulty. Officers recognized the deer from a previous call and cleared the area to avoid disturbing the doe while she cared for her fawns. No further action was taken. This incident has previously been reported to Division of Natural Resources.
Carbon Monoxide Alarm An officer was dispatched to Wyview Park in response to a carbon monoxide alarm. Upon arrival, officers contacted the residents and learned they had accidentally left a gas stove on, which caused the alarm to activate. Provo Fire responded and confirmed the residence was safe for occupants to return. Housing Facilities reset the alarm after checking the system.
Trouble Alarm Officers responded to the West Campus Central Building to an audible alarm. Upon arrival, officers determined that an exterior alarm was sounding intermittently. Dispatch notified Facilities of the issue.
