Medical A female student was involved in a scooter accident and sustained a laceration to her chin. Officers responded and found that the student was alert and receiving assistance. BYU EMS evaluated and treated the injury at the scene, providing the necessary medical care. Due to the nature of the injury, the student was transported to the Student Health Center for further evaluation and treatment.
Robbery Alarm Robbery alarm at room 3219, south concessions, at the Marriott Center. Employees admitted they had accidentally bumped the alarm button and there were no problems.
Accident A traffic collision occurred in the east parking lot of LaVell Edwards Stadium. Vehicle #1 was traveling southbound through the primary parking lot access lane, while Vehicle #2 was traveling eastbound in a collector aisle. As Vehicle #2 entered the intersection where the collector aisle met the primary traffic lane, the two vehicles collided. Officers responded to the scene, documented the accident, and gathered the necessary information from the parties involved. No injuries were reported by either driver or any occupants. Both vehicles sustained damage, and the incident was documented for insurance and reporting purposes
Accident An officer observed a minor traffic accident in the parking lot of the Jesse Knight Building on BYU campus. The involved drivers stopped and exchanged information following the collision. Upon contact, both parties indicated they did not require police assistance and wished to handle the matter privately without a formal police report. The officer observed no visible damage to either vehicle and no injuries were reported by the drivers or any occupants. As both parties declined police involvement and the incident met the criteria for a non-reportable accident, no further action was taken, and the officer cleared the scene.
Unconscious Officers responded to Room 177 in the RB after a dancer was found unconscious by building staff. Staff advised that the patient had a known medical history of similar episodes and provided relevant information to responders. The patient's father, who works in the RB, was contacted and responded to assist.
Accident An officer took a report over the phone of a minor traffic accident involving a BYU-owned vehicle and a parked vehicle. The driver of the BYU van accidentally scraped the side of the parked vehicle, causing minor damage. The student driver's supervisor reported the incident to Risk Management, and the involved parties exchanged insurance information. This was a minor accident, and a report was completed for documentation purposes.
Theft An officer responded to a delayed report of a stolen scooter. The reporting party stated she parked her Gotrax scooter outside the Benson Building at approximately 1600 hours on 10/6 and discovered it missing when she returned about 45 minutes later. Surveillance footage was reviewed; however, no cameras covered the area where the scooter had been parked. Officers also checked the area, but the scooter was not located. The case was documented as a theft.
Gas Smell Officers responded to the Brewster Building near the automotive shop for a report of a possible natural gas leak. The reporting party stated a strong gas odor was coming from the bay area and an adjacent entrance. Officers attempted to contact the on-call building supervisor and risk management supervisor but were unable to reach either individual. As a precaution, Provo Fire responded and inspected the building. After their assessment, they determined there was no gas leak and that the odor was most likely caused by spilled hydraulic fluid.
Seizures A student custodial employee working in the Hinckley Building experienced a seizure while on duty. Another employee called for assistance, and BYU EMS and Provo Fire responded to assess the individual and provide medical aid. The individual was later transported by ambulance to Utah Valley Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Accident Officers responded to a two-vehicle traffic accident near 780 E University Parkway. The driver of Vehicle 1 was attempting to make a left turn from the Marriott Center parking lot to travel westbound on University Parkway when she failed to yield to oncoming traffic and collided with Vehicle 2, which was traveling eastbound in the number one lane. As a result of the collision, Vehicle 1 became disabled in the roadway and was towed from the scene. The driver of Vehicle 1 was cited for failure to yield the right-of-way while making a left turn
Welfare Check Officers were dispatched to the area to check on a report of an individual lying in Parking Lot 53, south of the Taylor Building. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate anyone matching the description. The case was deemed unfounded.
