Fire Alarm An officer responded to an audible and visual fire alarm at the Joseph F. Smith Building (JFSB). The alarm was determined to have originated in the upper level of the parking structure. A fire technician responded, investigated the issue, and cleared the alarm. The technician advised that the activation was caused by a pressure-related issue within the parking structure and that no further problems were identified.
Gas Smell An officer responded to Wymount Terrace for a reported gas odor. Upon arrival, Provo Fire personnel located a hole in a gas pipe servicing the building. Enbridge Gas also responded and determined that the gas lines were privately owned. Property management (housing) was notified of the issue and advised to coordinate repairs. The incident was turned over to the appropriate parties for resolution.
Accident An officer responded to a traffic accident in Parking Lot 39 involving two BYU-owned vehicles. The investigation revealed that while parking, the driver of one BYU-owned vehicle struck a legally parked and unoccupied BYU-owned vehicle. Minor damage was observed to both vehicles. Photographs of the damage were taken and added to the case file. No injuries were reported.
Assault Officers responded to a report of an assault at the RB Field during a pickup soccer game. The complainant reported that he was punched in the face by another player, resulting in minor facial injuries. The suspect denied punching the complainant, stating that the incident involved only a heated exchange and mutual pushing. Witness statements were conflicting, with some reporting that punches were thrown and others stating that no punches occurred. Photographs were taken of the complainant’s injuries and added to the case file. The case will be forwarded to the Provo Justice Court for screening of potential assault charges.
