Welfare Check An officer responded to May Hall to conduct a welfare check after parents reported being unable to contact their daughter. The parents stated she had been on a train the previous night and were unsure if she had returned home. Dispatch confirmed that the student had checked into May Hall earlier that morning. The officer located the female student sleeping at her residence, contacted her, and she reassured her parents that she was safe.
Extortion A BYU student reported an online extortion case at the Police Department after sending nude photos to an unidentified person. The suspect then demanded $1,000 or threatened to post the images online. The officer investigated the phone number used by the suspect, determining it was a spoof number likely originating from abroad, which is common in such cases. The student was advised to cease communication, block the number, and was referred to the BYU Victims Advocate and Title IX resources for further support.
Accident – Hit and Run The BYU Police responded to a delayed property damage report in Lot 26, where the reporting party’s vehicle had been parked for most of the day. Upon her return, she discovered that the rear window had been broken. Officers reviewed camera footage but were unable to identify a suspect vehicle or determine the exact time of the incident. The cause of the window damage remains unclear, and there is currently no evidence to suggest foul play. The case is ongoing, and further updates will be provided if additional information becomes available.
Property Damage A police officer responded by phone to a delayed hit-and-run incident in Lot 46. The complainant reported that their vehicle was possibly struck on October 20, 2025. Upon arrival, the officer observed the complainant parking next to a light gray SUV and reviewed surveillance footage, which showed no other vehicles parking next to or leaving from the complainant's vehicle during that time frame. The officer advised the complainant that the damage did not appear to have occurred on campus during the specified period. The complainant requested a report for insurance purposes, but the exact location and cause of the damage remain unknown.
Theft An officer was dispatched to contact a complainant who wanted to report their bike stolen. The complainant reported that their bike was stolen approximately 2 to 3 weeks before making this report. The complainant also could not remember where on campus they last secured the bicycle.
Medical Officer responded to WC Football Field regarding a medical incident involving a patient who was playing and twisted their back. The patient was evaluated and medically cleared by Provo Fire and BYU EMS. The patient's grandmother was contacted, and it was decided that the patient would be transported to the hospital via private vehicle.
Theft A BYU officer responded to a report of a stolen motorized scooter near the Harold B. Lee Library (HBLL). The owner had parked the scooter unsecured and left the area. When he returned, the scooter was missing. Despite reviewing security camera footage, the officer was unable to identify the suspect or determine the circumstances of the theft.
Medical A BYU officer responded to a medical incident at the Wilkinson Center involving a male student who sustained an ankle injury after twisting his ankle and falling during a roller-skating event in the ballroom. The student was treated on scene by BYU EMS and Provo Fire personnel. After receiving care, he was assisted by BYU EMS and the officer to reach his vehicle, where he was then taken home by a friend.
Medical Officer and EMS responded to the LSB for a female with back pain. The patient was assisted to her vehicle for transport in her personal vehicle.
