Welfare Check A student used the Safe Walk app but was unresponsive to dispatch. An area check was requested for reassurance. Before arrival, dispatch was able to communicate with the student via text and confirmed she was safe, and no further assistance was required.
Accident – Hit and Run A delayed report was received regarding a vehicle with minor superficial damage in a parking lot near the Smith Field House. The officer contacted the reporting party by phone and documented the incident. The damaged vehicle was unoccupied at the time, and no injuries were reported. The other vehicle involved has not yet been identified.
Medical An officer responded to the SFH on a medical call involving a student who dropped a weight on their foot while exercising in the student weight room. BYU EMS and Provo Fire Department personnel arrived on scene to assess and treat the injured student. After receiving first aid treatment, the student was released from the scene.
Fire – Alarm A fire alarm was triggered at the Harmon Conference Center. Officer responded and contacted fire technicians, who reported smoke originating from a toaster oven—specifically, someone overcooked a bagel. Smoke and the odor of burnt bagel were detected in the area. The area was aired out and deemed safe.
Suspicious An officer was dispatched to the Heritage Central Building regarding a suspicious male of Indian descent soliciting students for employment opportunities. Two officers arrived at the scene. During the response, dispatch received a call from the initial caller, who expressed a desire to cancel the report, because he didn't want to wait for officers to arrive and make a statement. The individual had left the area, and the incident was determined to be unfounded.
Found Property During an extra patrol, a thread wallet containing an Arizona driver's license and bank card was found near a vehicle in the parking lot. The vehicle's license plate matched the owner of the ID. The owner contacted us shortly afterward, and his wallet was returned.
Lost Property A complainant reported losing his wallet this evening, suspecting he may have lost it at the JKB. The wallet, a thread wallet, contained his driver's license and bank cards. The officer advised him to check campus lost-and-found locations in case someone turned it in. Since the wallet could not be located, the case was documented.
Fire – Gas Smell An officer responded to Wymount 2A following a report of a gas or propane smell in the buildings outside stairwell. The Provo Fire Department inspected the complainant's apartment and the stairwell but found no signs of gas. The firefighter suggested the odor might have originated from a nearby furnace vent.
