Theft A high-end bicycle was stolen from a bike rack at Wymount Terrace, with the lock cut to make the theft. The owner had discreetly placed an AirTag on the bike, which led to its recovery in Magna. Authorities are currently reviewing charges against a suspect in connection with the theft.
Welfare Check A BYU Police officer was dispatched to conduct a welfare check on a student after a therapist from out of state expressed concern. The therapist had received an online questionnaire indicating the student was experiencing mental health struggles and suicidal thoughts. Upon contact, the student acknowledged their distress but reported they had a scheduled appointment with a therapist later in the week. The student voluntarily checked themselves into the hospital for further care.
Accident A minor accident was reported in lot 50. An officer responded and investigated. There were no injuries and a report was filed.
Information A police officer responded to a parking complaint in Lot 59, south of the Life Science Building. Upon arrival, the officer observed a Dodge pickup partially blocking the east entrance inbound lane. The officer spoke with the driver, who was a mobile repair service technician working on a nearby vehicle. The driver assured the officer he would move his truck as soon as possible. It was confirmed that the vehicle was not creating a hazard or blocking the sidewalk.
Accident – Hit & Run The BYU Police Department was notified of a delayed report concerning an incident in the small lot north of the CSC. The complainant described minor damage to the right front bumper of their vehicle and provided a photograph of a possible suspect vehicle parked nearby. Currently, camera footage is being reviewed to determine the details of the incident and identify the party responsible.
Accident A police officer was dispatched to Lot 5 to respond to a non-reportable accident. Upon arrival, the officer met with all the parties involved, collected their information, took an accident report, and documented the scene with photographs.
Fire Alarm The BYU Police Department responded to a report of a smoke alarm at Heritage 9. Upon arrival, they found that the alarm was not audible, and no smoke or fire was present after a thorough inspection of the indicated areas. The fire panel indicated multiple sources for the alarm, but all checks were clear. Dispatch informed that fire technicians would be en route to reset the system. The situation was then resolved with no further incidents.
Welfare Check A BYU police officer was dispatched after BYU security reported that a student had initiated a safe walk through the app but had not completed it. The officer was directed to the student's last known location. However, while the officer was driving to the area, BYU dispatch was informed that the student had returned to her apartment and was confirmed to be safe.
