Fire – Gas Smell An officer responded to a complaint of a gas smell at Heritage 7. Upon entering the residence, the officer detected only the odor associated with the oven’s self-cleaning feature, which had been initiated by a student the previous day. Provo Fire also responded to assess the situation and confirmed that there was no gas present inside the residence.
Lost Property A BYU employee reported losing a set of BYU keys sometime within the past month. The BYU Police were notified of the missing keys, and an officer gathered the relevant details to document the incident in a formal report.
Welfare Check Officers responded to a welfare check at the Music Building after a report of a male acting erratically and entering the premises with a guitar. The individual was found on the 4th floor, identified, and noted to have no current residence. He explained he was just looking to "jam" with someone. Officers informed him of several small warrants out of SL County and escorted him from the building. He then departed toward the bus stop.
Property Damage An officer was dispatched to a delayed accident which was a possible hit and run that occurred on BYU campus. The reporting party found damage to their vehicle and suspected that it happened while it was parked in Lot 37. An officer attempted to locate camera footage but was unable to find any cameras that covered that portion of the parking lot. The officer was unable to locate any suspect vehicles or determine if the hit and run occurred on BYU property.
Welfare Check Officers responded to Heritage Halls to conduct a welfare check after a concerned parent reported being unable to contact their son for several days. Upon arrival, there was no answer at the student’s apartment. The officers contacted a resident assistant and entered the apartment but found no one inside. As they were preparing to leave, the student arrived and explained that his cell phone was broken, which was why he had not been in contact. The parents were notified that he was safe.
Welfare Check A BYU officer was dispatched to the testing center to check on a student who had sent their spouse two SOS signals from the testing center. Officer arrived and had a testing center employee contact the student who advised that when they were okay but had accidentally hit the SOS button while shutting off their phone twice. The spouse wanted to be contacted and was relieved to know that their child was safe.
Campus Alarms Officer also responded to four campus building alarms to assist BYU security.
