DUI
A police officer observed a vehicle run a red light at the intersection of Cougar Blvd and State Street and initiated a traffic stop. Upon contact, the officer noticed open beer cans, bloodshot and glassy eyes, slurred speech, and the smell of alcohol on the driver's breath. The driver refused to perform standardized field sobriety tests and was subsequently placed under arrest. At the Utah County Jail, the driver submitted bodily fluid tests and was booked on charges of DUI and other offenses.

Missing Person
An officer responded to Heritage 4 to assist a family in locating their son after EFY concluded. When they arrived to pick him up curbside, the son was not present. The EFY counselor confirmed he had checked out the student and had not seen him since. The officer aided the father in accessing various locations around Heritage Halls, and the father then went to the WSC to search for his son. Later, the father called back to report that his son believed they were meeting near Pizza Brick Oven, where he was found.

Animal Problem
An officer responded to reports of an unattended, non-aggressive dog wandering near the construction site at Brigham Square. Due to prior commitments, officers were delayed in checking the area. The dog was not found during the initial search but was later reported to be back in the same vicinity.

Trespassing
Officers responded to the HBLL after reports of an individual who had been previously banned from BYU but was seen leaving the building. Although they couldn't locate the suspect on campus, surveillance footage confirmed his presence. The suspect was contacted by phone, admitted to being on campus, and agreed to meet with officers. During the meeting, he was issued a citation for criminal trespassing in Provo Justice Court. Notably, this individual had been cited for the same offense within the past three months.

Agency Assist
A BYU Officer responded to a report of a suspicious individual with a firearm in a Provo City neighborhood south of campus. Upon patrolling the area between the incident site and BYU Campus, the officer did not observe anything suspicious or out of the ordinary.

Trespassing
Officer responded to Brigham Square quad regarding a trespass report. The reporting party indicated two girls were interviewing FSY students for TikTok. The officer was unable to locate the individuals, and no other witnesses reported seeing them.

Medical
An officer responded to the Wilkinson Center regarding a sick FSY participant. BYU EMS was already on scene providing care, so the officer did not pursue further action. EMS assisted the participant and released them to an FSY counselor present.

Sick Person
A police officer responded to the Marriott Center to check on a For the Strength of Youth (FSY) attendee reportedly feeling unwell. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with the complainant, who identified the patient as a foreign exchange student from Norway experiencing pollen allergy symptoms. The student reported taking Benadryl and feeling drowsy. BYU EMS remained with her for approximately thirty minutes, monitoring her condition. After determining there was no further cause for concern, EMS released the student and left the scene without transporting her.

Citizen Contact
A police officer responded to the Wilkinson Student Center after FSY personnel reported an incident involving two juvenile participants. The FSY staff contacted the parents, who are also friends, and informed them of the situation. No criminal charges were filed, and the juveniles, who are best friends, were not permitted to stay overnight. They were ultimately released into custody of one of their mothers.

Medical
An officer responded to the Joseph F. Smith Building after a report of a For the Strength of Youth (FSY) attendee passing out. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with the complainant, who noted that the attendee had briefly passed out for a few seconds and was feeling tired but did not believe she fainted. BYU EMS remained with the patient for approximately thirty minutes, monitoring her condition. After confirming no further concerns, EMS released the patient on scene without transportation.

Chest Pain
A police officer and Provo Fire responded when an adult male reported having chest pain and shortness of breath. The male was treated and evaluated by the EMTs. Nothing life threatening was observed, and the patient was released on scene by medical.

Fire Alarm
An officer responded to multiple fire alarms on the first floor of the Benson Building. Upon arrival, they met with a BYU electrician who was attempting to reset the alarms, which continued to go off. Contractors were on-site, pulling new wiring and servicing the alarm system.

Citizen Contact
A citizen contacted police after her apartment door unexpectedly opened around 3 PM while she was at home with her son. Believing her husband was entering, she did not observe or describe the individual. She mentioned that she typically does not lock her door and suspects unauthorized entries have occurred before. Officers advised her to secure her residence with locks, alarms, and cameras when permitted by apartment policies. No suspect description was available.

Noise Complaint
An officer responded to a noise complaint at the USB after a resident living across the street reported persistent noise from a semi-truck refrigerated trailer docked at the facility. The trailer had been operating continuously, with the reefer running 24 hours a day. The resident had previously raised the issue several days ago. During the response, the officer learned that BYU Risk Management was currently testing the decibel levels related to the complaint.

Accident
An officer responded to a property damage traffic accident at the MPS after Vehicle #1 failed to stop at the main gate's stop sign. The vehicle drove through as the gate was closing, resulting in minor damage to both the gate and the vehicle. No injuries were reported, and no further action was required.

Littering – Discarded Property
An officer responded to Wyview Park after reports of several unlabeled laundry bags left behind a complainant's vehicle. Upon arrival, the officer observed the bags, and laundry lacked any identifying marks and noted a substance resembling dish soap on the back of the vehicle. The officer disposed of the abandoned belongings in a dumpster and advised the complainant to wash her car.

Juvenile Problem
The BYU Police Department was contacted by an FSY session administrator regarding concerns about inappropriate behavior that took place at the men's commons (MC) during an FSY dance.

Theft
An officer responded to a report of a stolen electric scooter from a bicycle rack near the Smith Fieldhouse. The complainant reported that the scooter, which had been locked, was stolen sometime between 12:00 PM on May 25 and 4:00 PM on May 27. When the police arrived, the lock securing the scooter was also missing. BYU Security confirmed that the scooter had not been impounded. The investigation into the theft is ongoing.

Suspicious Bag
Officers responded to a report from a faculty member regarding an unattended bag found in the bushes near the loading dock of the Wilkinson Student Center. Upon arrival, they located the bag, identified as containing old food items, which they discarded. The bag was then secured at the lost and found.

Medical
Officer responded to HR11 for a medical incident involving a 22-year-old female who had passed out. EMS and Provo Fire evaluated the patient and addressed any medical needs. This was a very minor incident.

Medical
A report was made regarding an injury on an outdoor playing field near WYView Park housing units. An adult female sustained a minor knee injury. BYU EMS responded, provided treatment on-site, and the individual was released.

Keep Peace
Officers responded to Lot 6 to mediate a peacekeeping situation between two citizens involved in an earlier accident. One individual requested to review video footage before accepting responsibility, having submitted a GRAMA request during the incident. Investigators will follow up with the case.

Suspicious
The BYU police department received a complaint about a suspicious person, south campus, around the duck pond area. Officers arrived in the area and were unable to locate the individual.

Information
An officer responded to a call from an FSY counselor regarding a juvenile incident. The officer determined the matter was non-criminal and advised the counselor to address it internally. The counselor explained she was required to file a report for record-keeping purposes.

Medical
BYU police, EMS, and Provo Fire responded to Wymount Terrace, Building 16E, Apartments following reports of a person who was possibly unconscious and having difficulty breathing. Upon arrival, they determined the individual was simply sleeping and unaware of maintenance work inside her apartment. The scene was cleared without incident.

Fire Alarm
An officer from BYU Police Department responded to a fire alarm on the first floor of the MPS schoolhouse. The cause of the alarm was unknown, but upon arrival, the alarm had been silenced. Fire technicians were notified to check and reset the system.

Fire Alarm
A fire alarm at LVES was triggered when welders working on the stadium stairs on the northwest side accidentally caused leaves beneath the stairs to smolder after sparks ignited them. BYU police responded, identified the cause, and the electrician on site silenced and reset the alarm.

Accident
An officer responded to a traffic accident at Wymount Terrace. Upon arrival, the officer determined the incident was non-reportable under state guidelines and facilitated the exchange of information between the involved parties. The officer also addressed their questions, ensuring both parties were satisfied and understood the process.

Citizen Contact
An officer responded to the BYUB regarding a case of criminal mischief. The reporting party indicated that someone had wiped away oxidized paint from an exterior door. The officer observed that no damage was caused, as the door had multiple marks from objects bumping into it.

Missing Person
An officer was dispatched to the Y Trailhead in response to a report of a missing child. Officers were already in the vicinity addressing a parking issue. Upon arriving at the top parking lot to meet with the complainant, the officer was informed that the child had returned to the dorms and was now with a parent. The complainant advised that no further assistance was needed.

Citizen Contact
A delayed report was received regarding a traffic accident in the parking lot of BYU Campus, specifically at the University Service Building adjacent to the Rear (West) MTC. The caller confirmed that both drivers involved had contacted each other and exchanged insurance information.

Accident – Hit and Run
An officer responded to Lot 45 regarding a reported hit and run incident that occurred over the weekend. The officer interviewed the complainant, documented the details of the incident, and supplied the complainant with a case number for reference.

Suspicious
Officers responded to the Richards Building intramural field regarding reports of individuals playing soccer. Upon arrival, they confirmed that both gates were secure and found no one on the field.

Suspicious Person
Officers responded to the Smith Field House regarding a suspicious person outside the cadaver lab. Security, while securing the building, did not observe the individual again. Upon arrival, officers cleared the affected floor and the cadaver lab, finding no unusual activity or items.

Trespassing
An officer responded to the University Parkway Center after BYU Security reported four individuals found inside the building. Despite being asked to leave, the group failed to comply. The officer identified the individuals, escorted them out, and issued a warning for trespassing.

Juvenile Problem
An officer responded to Chipman Hall about six teenage boys carrying water balloons, but when officers arrived, they couldn't find them. Despite searching and reviewing surveillance footage, the boys were not identified or located, and no damage was reported. An officer remained in the area for an hour but was unable to spot the group.

Unsecured Gate
During a routine patrol, an officer discovered the east gate of the Ellsworth Building to be open and unlocked. After ensuring the area was secure and no one was present, the gate was closed and locked to prevent any potential access to the area after hours.

Unsecured Door
An officer responded to an unsecured door at the Cannon Center, discovering that the door striker was stuck and would not lock. Despite multiple attempts, dispatch was unable to reach the on-call Access Services employee but left a voicemail and text message. The officer removed the striker cover and released the striker, allowing the door to be locked properly. A maintenance service request was then submitted to address the issue.

Fire Alarm
BYU Police responded to the Motion Picture Studio for a fire alarm. A BYU Security officer also responded to the area. The security officer conducted a walk-through of the building, but did not locate any signs of smoke or flames. An officer silenced the alarm and notified BYU Technicians to check and reset the system.

Animal Problem
BYU Police responded to Helaman Halls to assist with a rescue of ducklings trapped in a storm drain. An officer successfully freed the stranded ducklings, ensuring their safety.

Accident – Hit and Run
A police officer was dispatched to take a delayed report via phone from a complainant regarding a hit-and-run traffic incident in Lot 32. The officer successfully made contact with the caller, and the case is currently under investigation.

Campus Alarms
During the reporting period, BYU officers responded to eight campus alarms and several lockouts, ensuring campus safety and security.

Medical
BYU Police responded to the Richards Building to assist with a juvenile who had sustained a small head laceration. Provo Medics arrived on scene, evaluated the patient, and cleared him for release.

Suspicious
An officer responded to Lot 37 following a report of a verbal argument between a male and female. The reporting party observed them arguing, after which they separated and went in different directions. The officer located the male at the scene, who explained he was there playing soccer with his family and girlfriend. He indicated the argument was over another woman he has been dating. The male showed the officer her phone number, and the officer attempted to contact her to confirm her safety.

Trespassing
An officer responded to the North Intramural Fields after reports of unauthorized individuals playing soccer on the closed field. Upon arrival, the officer found the south gate open and contacted the players, who were identified as BYU students. The officer issued a trespass warning for unauthorized use of the field, and the players departed. The officer then secured and locked the field to prevent further access.

Smoke Alarm – Carbon Monoxide
BYU Police and Provo Fire responded to an incident at Wymount Terrace 9D after tenants reported their standalone CO alarm had gone off multiple times. Firefighters checked for hazardous gases and found none, concluding the alarm was likely caused by equipment malfunction. BYU Housing was notified and a housing representative was dispatched to address the issue.

Suspicious
BYU Police were alerted to a suspicious incident at Wyview Park after a custodian discovered paper towels stuffed into a recessed area near a ceiling light fixture in a bathroom. Although no property damage occurred, the custodian reported the incident to document what appeared to be suspicious or potentially malicious activity.

Accident
BYU Police responded to a vehicle accident involving a BYU-owned vehicle that backed into an unoccupied parked car. No injuries were reported. An officer assisted with the exchange of information and provided guidance on resolving the incident.

Suspicious
An officer responded to an Engineering Building location regarding a suspicious vehicle. The reporting party observed an unoccupied vehicle with its engine running for over 30 minutes. Officers located the registered owner, who secured the vehicle.

Welfare Check
Officers responded to Lot 46 for a welfare check on an individual sleeping in the parking lot. They identified the subject and conducted a wants check, which returned negative. The individual then proceeded to head towards Lehi.

Medical Alert
On May 22, 2025, at approximately 1110 hours, an officer responded to the east side of the Marriott Center regarding a Life Alert activation. Provo Fire and BYU EMS personnel arrived to find the individual who confirmed that the alert was triggered accidentally. No medical assistance was required.

Found Person
BYU Police responded to a report of a lost child on the BYU campus after the child wandered away from his parents during a graduation event. The parents estimated they alerted authorities approximately 15-20 minutes after the child was missing. Officers conducted an initial search but were unable to locate the child. About an hour later, the child's mother found him and confirmed he was safe, informing BYU Police that no further assistance was required.

Accident
A police officer responded via telephone regarding a delayed hit-and-run. The reporting party stated that his vehicle, parked at LVES, was damaged, but no suspect information was available. Camera footage of the incident could not be located. The vehicle sustained minor damage to the passenger side, and no injuries were reported.

Accident
An officer responded to Lot 49 regarding a traffic incident. The reporting party reported brushing a parked vehicle with the side of her vehicle while exiting the lot. The owners of the parked car, who were attending a graduation at the time, stated they would contact the officer once they completed the event.

Medical
An officer was dispatched to the intramural field regarding a possible broken collarbone. The patient had already transported themselves to the hospital via personal vehicle before the officer's arrival.

Accident
A police officer responded to a reported traffic accident in lot 38. Upon arrival, the officer observed paint transfer and dent damage to the driver's side door of Vehicle 2, along with minor paint damage to the passenger's side front bumper of Vehicle 1. Both drivers estimated the total repair cost at approximately $1,200 and expressed a preference to resolve the matter civilly without filing a police report.
