Attempt to Locate – Stolen Vehicle Officers were notified of a stolen vehicle passing by the East Campus Drive License Plate Reader near the Brewster Building. They began searching the area and notified Provo Police. Provo Police located the stolen vehicle near the Baymont Inn and arrested several individuals.
Lost Property An officer took a phone report about lost keys that were discovered during an audit. The officer documented the lost property report and provided the complainant with a case number for reference.
Criminal Mischief BYU PD officers received a delayed report about a BYU student driving around campus with friends while they threw cheese on people's cars. The driver of the vehicle was contacted and warned about potential criminal consequences should the behavior continue. The driver advised that it would not happen again.
Theft BYU Police were dispatched to a vehicle burglary in Lot 45. The reporting party had parked their car and accidentally left the window down with a purse inside. When they returned to the vehicle, the purse was missing. An officer gathered the details and noted the items as stolen.
Lost Property The Complainant called BYU PD to report that they could not find their laptop. An officer reviewed security footage to assist them in finding the property. Later, the individual reported that they had located the laptop, and that police assistance was no longer needed.
Unsecured Door An officer was dispatched to the ROTC at the request of the complainant, who was unable to release the latch on the east side door. When officers arrived, the complainant had already left, and they were able to release the door latch and secure the door.
Lost Property Report of a couple of lost keys from the Wilkinson Center. The caller is a building manager who reported that keys were checked out for work purposes but not returned. A search for the keys was conducted, but they have not been located. It is not believed that the keys were stolen; rather, they are thought to have been misplaced. The police documented the report and catalogued the key identifiers
Accident BYU Police responded to Lot 26 for a minor accident. An officer arrived at the scene and met with the two parties involved. The officer remained on the scene while the parties exchanged information. No injuries were sustained, and the damage was very minor.
Accident Hit & Run An officer was asked to contact the complainant regarding a traffic accident in lot #40. The officer contacted the complainant and learned that an unknown individual had hit the complainant's vehicle. The suspect left cash on the vehicle but no contact information. The officer looked for video footage of the incident but was unable to locate any. The officer asked the complainant to send the necessary information for the case. At this time, the officer has not received the required information. The complainant was provided with a case number for the incident.
Information An officer responded to Helaman Halls on a report of bicycles stolen. Officers were able to watch video footage and observed what appeared to be college-aged students moving the bicycles in question to another bicycle rack. The officer collected the bicycles and met with the complainant to return them.
Medical BYU EMS and an officer responded to the IPF due to a medical issue. The patient was playing intramural soccer when they felt their knee pop. BYU EMS evaluated the patient, who then refused further medical treatment and was transported by private vehicle to Utah Vallely Hospital.
Sick Person BYU EMS, Provo Paramedics, and a BYU Police officer responded to the Crabtree building for a medical call. Medical personnel treated the patient at the scene and released them without incident.
Accident An officer responded to a delayed report of a traffic accident that occurred in parking lot 7. The officer met with the complainant, documented the incident, and provided a case number. The accident is still under investigation.
Information An officer responded to a possible traffic accident in lot #37. Upon arrival and after speaking with both drivers involved, it was determined that the complainant had actually bumped the other vehicle while parking. Both drivers spoke and agreed that the damage was too minor to warrant a report. After discussing the situation, the owners decided they did not need police assistance.
Theft An officer responded to a theft call at Wymount Terrace. The complainant reported that their political flag had been taken approximately four days ago. The officer checked for security cameras in the area but did not locate any that would have recorded the incident. The officer contacted the complainant, who stated that they only wanted a report for informational purposes.
Disturbance An officer responded to Lot 52 at Wymount after a tenant reported a vehicle driving through the parking lot at high speed and blasting loud music. The complainant believed there were two vehicles, possibly Kia Soul. There was a ten-minute delay before the officer arrived.
Unsecured Gate An officer on patrol found the gate open at the NCAA track facility open. The officer checked the facility then closed and locked the gate.
Sex Offense An officer received an emailed report concerning a possible lewdness incident at the Harold B. Lee Library. The officer recognized the suspect from a previous interaction. Although the officer attempted to call the complainant, she was unavailable but indicated she would be free to discuss the matter later in the week. The officer also reviewed video surveillance of the incident.
Suspicious BYU police officers responded to a report of a suspicious male entering the Smith Field House (SFH) by violating the door. Upon arrival, the officers searched the building but were unable to locate the individual. Dispatch later reported that they had seen the male leave the building before the officers arrived.
Suspicious Activity A caller reported seeing an unknown male walking in the area with bicycles on the east side of Wyview housing on University Ave. The caller suspected that the bicycles might have been stolen. Officers responded to the location but did not observe any persons or bicycles other than those typically seen in the housing area. A search of the surrounding neighborhood was conducted for a male with bicycles, but none were located.
Weapons Offense Officers responded to a call regarding a male individual hiking the Y-trailhead with an open-carry handgun visible on his hip and a baby carrier on his back containing an infant. The complainant had already vacated the area by the time law enforcement arrived. It is important to note that Utah is an open-carry state; however, Brigham Young University (BYU) has regulations prohibiting weapons on its property. Some users of the Y-trail may not be aware that it falls within BYU's jurisdiction, as the trail also provides access to other hiking systems along the Wasatch Front. Given that the male was not reported to be acting aggressively, officers took no further action apart from maintaining a patrol presence in the area for safety.
Medical During a softball event at BYU, an officer on duty witnessed an incident involving the university's social media photographer. The photographer was struck in the forehead by a foul ball, resulting in immediate injury. The officer promptly called for BYU EMS to provide assistance. In the meantime, they applied ice to the photographer's forehead and fingers to help manage the swelling and discomfort. Upon arrival, BYU EMS assessed the situation, treated the photographer for her injuries, which included a large goose egg on her forehead and bruising on her fingers.
Found Property A student turned in a key they found to the officer while he was patrolling South Campus Drive. The key is a fob for a Chrysler vehicle and was turned in at the info desk at the WSC.
Suspicious An officer received a directive from the Dispatch Center to contact a professor at Brigham Young University (BYU). Upon reaching the professor, she informed the officer that she had received a voicemail at her office earlier that day. The content of the voicemail was unclear to her, as she did not recognize the caller and had no understanding of the message they were trying to convey. The professor noted that the phone number from which the voicemail originated appeared as blocked. In an attempt to gather more information, the officer utilized TLO.COM to investigate the email associated with the unknown caller; however, the search yielded no identifiable owner name.
Hazardous Condition A concerned citizen alerted the authorities to a hazardous situation involving a road sign that was precariously hanging from a traffic signal pole, posing a potential danger to passing vehicles and pedestrians. Upon arriving at the scene, an officer confirmed the sign's precarious position directly over the roadway. To ensure public safety, the officer requested assistance from the electrical shop, specifically an employee equipped with a boom truck. The shop employee promptly responded and successfully removed the hanging sign before it could fall, eliminating the risk of injury or damage.
Assault A police officer responded to the area of 450 E Cougar Blvd. and University Pkwy after a caller reported that a vehicle had driven past multiple times, with the occupants throwing water bottles at them and other pedestrians. The officer searched the area and spoke to several individuals who had bottles thrown at them. The officer also identified the suspect vehicle, which is registered in Juab County. This investigation is active and has been referred to the Investigations Division.
Information Several officers responded to the tennis courts regarding a disturbance between opposing fans attending a match between the University of Utah and BYU. The athletic director of Olympic sports reported that a group of individuals was engaged in a heated discussion and requested an officer's presence. The matches were competitive, and tensions were high among the fans. Officers stood by to maintain the peace until the matches concluded and the crowd dispersed.
Medical An officer responded to a medical call at the WSC, where a 58-year-old male had twisted his knee. He was evaluated by Provo Paramedics who had arrived on the scene. After their assessment, they released him from the scene. The patient planned to arrange for a ride to a medical facility for further evaluation of his knee.
Suspicious An officer was dispatched to the CONE parking lot 25 regarding a report of a suspicious individual photographing vehicles. Upon arrival, the officer discovered that the person was an employee of the creamery, taking pictures to document two vehicles that had been booted due to extended parking and unpaid tickets, for his supervisor.
Parking Problem An officer was dispatched to the Creamery to investigate a report that an individual had illegally removed a valid boot from his vehicle. Upon arrival, the officer met with the individual, who claimed he was merely joking and asserted that he had not done anything illegal. Despite the individual's explanation, the officer issued a citation for the removal of the boot. The case will be referred to the Provo City Attorney's Office for review of any potential charges.
Lost Property A police officer filed a report regarding a lost engagement ring. Lost Property: Wilson Diamonds engagement ring featuring a white gold band, a pale-yellow main stone, and smaller white diamonds surrounding the main stone. The ring is estimated to be worth approximately $1,000.00.
Accident An officer responded to Lot 45 on a traffic accident property damage only. A car traveling westbound ran into a southbound car near the west entrance. Property damage only.
Traffic Problem BYU Police received a report of an individual riding a dirt bike in Brigham Square. Upon arrival at the scene, officers located the suspect and issued a citation for driving on the sidewalk.
Suspicious An officer contacted a BYU Teaching Assistant in the Tanner building. The TA reported that when she arrives at work on Monday and Wednesday mornings, there is an odor in the room that she believes may resemble that of controlled substances. When asked if she has ever smelled or recognized the scent of controlled substances, she replied that she has not. The officer requested that she contact dispatch the next time she detects the odor, so that they can determine if it is drug-related.
Trespassing Trespassing, South of HBLL; There was a small demonstration near Lot 4. Security requested assistance from the police. Officers responded to assist; however, the issue was ultimately resolved by security personnel.
Lost Property A complainant reported the loss of two keys over a year ago: key 3115, a copy for the stadium's lost and found, and key 5428, copy #9. Although the keys were previously reported missing to the key shop and have since been replaced, the complainant is unsure of their exact location at the time of loss. The key shop advised the complainant to file a report with the BYU Police for their records.
Lost Property BYU Building Care at the Music Building conducted their yearly key inventory and reported that they were missing five keys. The officer took the report and this information was sent to the key shop.
Criminal Mischief An officer met with a complainant regarding a case of criminal mischief that occurred earlier that day between 1328 hours and 1620 hours. The vehicle in question is a Tesla that sustained key scratches, which the complainant believes were inflicted during this time frame. The scratches appear to be consistent with intentional damage. The officer reviewed camera footage and confirmed that no one approached the vehicle while it was parked in Lot 19.
Robbery – Alarm An officer responded to the Wilkinson Center following a report of a robbery alarm at the distribution center. Upon arrival, the officer contacted the employees, who indicated that the alarm had been triggered accidentally.
Medical BYU EMS and Police responded to the LSB after a caller reported that a female had fallen down the stairs, injuring her ankle. The patient was treated and evaluated by the EMTs before being released. An officer provided the patient and her brother with a shuttle to the patient's apartment, located south of campus.
Medical Provo Fire/EMS responded to the UTA stop at 900 N and approximately 750 E following a report of an adult male exhibiting signs of a seizure. A BYU officer responded to assist, but the individual was not affiliated with the BYU campus. The subject was non-communicative and was transported by Provo ambulance to the hospital. There was no indication of criminal or suspicious activity.
Disturbance A police officer was dispatched to the Creamery on Ninth East (CONE) following reports of a disturbance involving a protestor holding a sign reading "the end is nigh" and filming activities. The officer activated their body-worn camera and entered the establishment, where they conversed with a student supervisor who confirmed that the group was not causing any disruptions and likely had prior authorization to film. The officer was then introduced to full-time manager Keith LeBaron, who recalled receiving an email about the film project. After advising Mr. LeBaron on how to contact the police if needed, the officer exited the building, having cleared the scene without incident. Body-worn camera footage has been attached to the report for documentation.
Found Property A $50 bill was found on the second floor of the EB and turned into the Police Department. The person who found the money slipped the bill under the south door of the Police Department and notified Dispatch. The officer placed the money in a white envelope labeled with a case number and left it in Lost and Found at the WSC.
Alarms Officers also responded to 12 campus alarms during this reporting period.
Lost Property BYU Police were notified about some lost keys belonging to BYU. An officer took the report and classified the keys as lost or stolen.
Sick Person An officer and BYU EMS were dispatched to the Wilkinson Student Center in response to a medical call. Before arriving on the scene, the officer was informed by medical personnel that he could cancel his response. The officer cleared the area without incident, and the patient was treated and released at the scene.
Information BYU Police were notified of a possibly suspicious person at Helaman Halls. An officer spoke with the complainant, who reported that a male had taken a picture of the building and seemed suspicious, though they could not provide specific details regarding why the behavior was perceived as suspicious. The officer reviewed the camera footage, identified the incident, and determined that nothing suspicious had occurred. No further action was taken.
Robbery – Alarm Officers responded to the scene following a report of a robbery alarm. They checked the area and did not observe any issues while dispatch reviewed the cameras inside and noted that everything appeared to be business as usual. The officers contacted the employees, who had no knowledge of any incident. The alarm was reset without incident.
Trespassing An officer responded to Wasatch Elementary School in response to a report of two juveniles climbing a chain-link fence, possibly trying to access the roof. The officer located the described juveniles as they were leaving the area and spoke to both about the consequences of trespassing on the property. Both denied attempting to reach the roof and stated that they were only sitting on the chain-link fence.
Traffic Offense An officer was at Heritage speaking with students regarding a subject who was driving on the sidewalks. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle. Dispatch also received a call and an online report from another complainant. They provided the officers with video footage of the suspect vehicle driving quickly on the sidewalk. Dispatch reviewed plate readers and camera footage but did not find a vehicle that matched the video. Officers made multiple trips through all the parking lots around HL but had no contact with the suspect vehicle.
Medical Officer and BYU EMS responded to the IPF for a student who had injured their ankle during intramural soccer. The patient was medically assessed; however, they refused transport and chose to wait a couple of days to determine whether it was a strain or something more serious.
Medical BYU Police and Provo Fire responded to Heritage Halls for a medical emergency. The EMTs treated and evaluated the patient, finding no immediate reason for her to be transported to the hospital via ambulance. The patient elected to go to the hospital in a personally owned vehicle driven by her roommate.
Medical BYU EMS and a police officer responded to the Cougar Eat following a report of a medical call for service. This was a very minor incident handled by BYU EMS.
Theft Report on Misplaced Property. A BYU student reported that a musical instrument has been missing since last week. The instrument, which is housed in a soft case, was last known to be in the Engineering Building on April 1, 2025. The caller has checked with building management, the lost and found, and the campus bus system. The officer has entered the instrument into the local lost property file.
Medical An officer was dispatched to the MOA following a report of an employee who may have had a seizure. Officers from BYU EMS and Provo Fire responded and evaluated the patient. After the evaluation the patient was released.
Citizen Contact This report addresses the issue of chairs being unaccounted for or moved from their designated locations in the Joseph F. Smith Building. It was generated through police dispatch via email. An officer made contact via email, advising on available resources and suggesting points of contact for moving forward. Currently, the evidence does not support a criminal investigation; however, if additional evidence is discovered, further investigation may be warranted.
Fire – Gas Smell An officer responded to the Brimhall Building following a report of a gasoline smell. Upon arrival, the officer contacted the construction company that was repairing the roof. It was discovered that the workers had filled their generator with gasoline, which began to leak. The gasoline leaked from the bed of the truck onto the lawn on the north side of the building. Employees from risk management and building maintenance responded and took over the incident due to the gasoline smell in the building. After it was determined that the officer was no longer needed, they left the scene.
Found Property An officer responded to a call about a possible diamond found. The item was located near the MOA. The officer took the item to a jeweler, who examined it and determined that it was a cubic zirconia with an approximate value of $5.00. The item will be dropped off at the lost and found.
Welfare Check The officer responded to the trailhead for a welfare check after the complainant reported observing what they believed to be SOS signals from the Y. Upon arrival, the officer noticed a flashlight moving around in the area. The officer shined the spotlight toward the source of the light and then activated the overhead lights. Subsequently, the officer saw a flashlight coming down the trail. Upon meeting the individuals, the officer learned that they were signaling to a family member in Provo.
Welfare Check An officer was dispatched to Wyview Park in response to a report of a vehicle blocking the exit. Upon arrival, the officer checked the area but did not see any vehicles blocking the exit. The officer then drove through the area and did not observe any problems.
Information Officers were dispatched to the south side of the Tanner Building following a report of suspicious individuals. Upon arrival, they quickly found no evidence of any suspicious activity. They spoke with some juveniles playing nighttime games in the area and determined that no criminal behavior was occur
